Discover the Algarve: from dinosaur tracks to Ponta da Piedade

The southern coast of Portugal is a paradise for travelers who love rugged nature, picturesque villages and sunny beaches. Begin your adventure in Sagres, the southwesternmost point of Europe, where high cliffs rise steeply from the ocean and the old fortress overlooks an endless horizon. Not far away you’ll find Raposeira, a quiet village surrounded by green hills, and the charming coastal town of Salema, with its colorful fishing boats and relaxed atmosphere. Here you’ll also discover something unique: real dinosaur tracks still visible in the rocks along the beach, millions of years old – a fascinating experience for young and old alike.

Head north to explore Aljezur, an authentic town with a medieval castle and views over a green valley. Nearby are the beaches of Praia do Amado and Bordeira, where vast sandy plains, mighty dunes and powerful waves form an eldorado for surfers and nature lovers.

Back on the southern coast awaits Lagos, where you can wander through the old town and admire the spectacular coastline of Ponta da Piedade: a fairytale setting of jagged rock arches, caves and golden cliffs. Further east, Portimão and Carvoeiro showcase nature’s strength once again with breathtaking rock formations and hidden caves, such as the famous Benagil Cave. Around Lagoa and Porches you’ll find quiet beaches nestled between steep cliffs, perfect for a peaceful day away from the crowds.

For a different perspective, drive inland to the Monchique mountains. Here, the landscape changes completely: rolling hills, eucalyptus and cork oak forests, and natural hot springs offer peace and refreshment, with panoramic views stretching to the ocean.

A road trip full of contrasts: from dinosaur tracks and imposing rock formations along the coast to the green mountains inland – the Algarve reveals its true beauty from the road.

Whether you love nature, culture or adventure – the Algarve has it all.
