Zeeland up close – a photographic journey along the coast

Zeeland never ceases to fascinate. Not only because of its changing light or endless skies, but also thanks to the mix of nature, culture and powerful waterworks. It is a province where you can truly feel the space – on the beach, on the dike, in the air.

Between vast beaches, rugged dunes and charming villages, you’ll find a province that breathes in the rhythm of the sea. Whether you come for watersports, peace, nature or history – Zeeland will surprise you. With sunsets that leave you speechless, dikes that seem endless, and a fresh breeze that always carries the scent of adventure.

Take Domburg – a coastal town full of history, charm and atmosphere. Centuries ago it was already discovered by artists for its extraordinary light. To this day it remains a place that invites you to look, wander and capture. From early morning mist over the dunes to golden sunsets by the sea.

In Domburg you can still sense the atmosphere that once inspired painters like Mondrian. With its wide beach, historic spa tradition and lively terraces, it’s the perfect mix of nature and culture.

Not far away lies Westkapelle, with its characteristic sea dike and robust lighthouse watching over the sea and the village. Here you experience the true Zeeland: rough, windy, but full of character. The lighthouses along the coast are not only nautical beacons, but also photographic landmarks – each with its own history and view.

They give direction, literally and visually – striking points in the landscape that look even more impressive from the air.

And then there is the impressive Oosterscheldekering – a feat of Dutch ingenuity that both protects and connects. From above you can truly see how monumental this structure is, a rhythmic interplay of lines between land and water. Nearby sandbanks are home to seals that, if you’re lucky, can be spotted basking. From the air, they appear as small resting points in an endless sea of blue and sand.

For me, Zeeland is a place I look at with fresh eyes every time. A place where I feel the freedom of water, wind and light.

A landscape that tells its story best through images – from the ground, and increasingly from above.
